If you had to sum up your life philosophy in one sentence, what would it be?

There was a time when I might have answered this question with something about working hard and achieving my goals. I still believe in those things. I’ve just become more interested in what the work is making possible—and whether I actually enjoy the life I’m working so hard to build.
I want meaningful work, relationships where I can exhale, and the freedom to change my mind. I want to be useful without needing to be indispensable. And I want to enjoy an ordinary Tuesday instead of saving all my happiness for an achievement, a holiday or a smaller number on a scale.
Some days, that philosophy looks like courage: putting myself forward, starting again, believing in something before there is much evidence.
Other days, it looks like time with my husband and dogs, a good book, or cake for breakfast without turning it into a moral dilemma.
I’m still ambitious. I just want my ambition to leave room for me.
